Adding on to the post I did earlier about Die Antwoord that turned down Lady Gaga, here is a quick snippert take from an interview with an American Reporter. They are currently touring the United States and also made an appearance on the David Letterman show which you can also find on Youtube.
Love them or hate them but the very ‘unique’ band, Die Antwoord, never fails to amaze! Whether it is the lyrics they come up with or the costumes they wear, the questionalbe language or just the combination of all these things, they simply draw a lot of attention! So want to hear about their latest blockbusting antic? Here it is; Lady Gaga asked them to do a world tour with her as an opening act. The immiately declined and took a swing at Lady Gaga’s commercial music which they deem to be pure nonsense (other words might have been used) and it is clear that they cannot associate their brand and style of music to her levels of unoriginality. To me, this was one of those articles that just made me chuckle. Hollywood can’t buy our local Zeff-ness! South African stubborness, what can I say?!
It has been a while since I have found anything interesting to write about regarding South African musicians, that is until now. I stumbled upon the young rocker Niel Higgins through one of my Facebook updates and I loved his fresh and catchy sound straight away. It is amazing that social media has become a tool whereby normal people can discover hidden talents like Niel in contrast to the old methods where it would take an artist years and years of gigs before a big label noticed them. Again, all I can say is that it is great how South African Talent is coming through the ranks and making it internationally. Lets support our local South African musicians. Go check out Niel’s Facebook page now and be one of the first to like a page of a legend on the rise: http://www.facebook.com/nielhiggins?sk=wall
Have you ever wondered where we got the very sexy pic of Minki van der Westhuizen that we used on her product pic? Well obviously we got it from her … and I found the video of the photo shoot during which it was taken. See if you can spot the outfit, and afterwards, go listen to some of her GPS voice samples and support Minki by getting her on your GPS today, you won’t be sorry.
South African is full of weird and wonderful creatures, and I am not only referring to the people who we regularly blog about, but if you look at the video, also the animals seem to be a bit off their rockers from time to time. Just think back to the incident where the buck charged the mountain biker and rammed him off his bike … when I saw this video last night while standing in a queue at Clicks (yes they show awesome videos there!) I decided there and then I would look for it on Youtube today and low and behold, I found it!
Check the sheer audacity of this warthog that obviously have not received the ‘foodchain-memo” … the hunter becomes the hunted, and then it becomes a sport!
Awesome video, please share with your friends if you are proudly South African.
If you are a committed Riaan Cruywagen fan like myself, you will be ecstatic to hear the latest news … no pun intended. The most legendary news anchor South Africa has ever produced will be launching his autobiography at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival and will be available in all good book stores by the 2nd of April.
Good luck with the sales of the books Riaan, I trust the whole South Africa will line up to read more about the legend that graced (and still does) our television screens for decades!
Another great video I found … this one actually has a whole bunch of classic South African ads that was on air during the 80′s. It would be really fun to see which agencies made these ads, which ones are still around, and which recent ads they have done. I’m just saying it’s a great idea, I’m not going to do it … I’m just saying
Gareth Cliff made the news again but this time it wasn’t for the right reasons. Cliffie was pulled over by the traffic police after doing 182 km/h coming back from Durban where he was shooting some South African Idols shots. The poor man was tired and in a hurry to get home (who hasn’t been there before?!) … He was quoted on feeling really stupid about the whole story and that he didn’t intend to go that fast. He spent a while in a holding facility and already appeared in court. He is taking full repsonsibility for his actions which is great and I think it will keep and even gain him support. Gareth ‘The Stig’ Cliff is still one of our own though, and although a lot of people is using this mistake to nail him on Facebook and other social media channels, I encourage you all to ease up on the man, we all make mistakes and he did apologize. Let’s all keep on supporting South African Talent and be Proudly South African.
Yet another mile stone that makes it great to be South African. Local director, Allan Shelley is a 27 year old Cape Town boy, which has been selected to direct the short film titled Spirit of a Denture. Shelley came up tops in the Jameson First Shot competition which saw him bumped him up straight to the top of the food chain when it comes to young directors. He is ecstatic with his accomplishment and with the opportunity to work with an actor of Spacey’s calibre.
Another South African makeing a huge mark in the international world. Well done Allan!
I often wondered how a GPS actually works. So first off, the acronym is short for Global Positioning System … now you know. When I decided to figure out how it works I thought I should get a military man to explain this to me, it just makes sense to ask a guy that relies heavily on the technology to actually explain it right?! This obviously got me thinking that we need to get a Military Drill Sergeant GPS Voice next!!
